On Wednesday 7 October NSW Minister for Disability Services John Ajaka joined Warringah Council Mayor Michael Regan and Jigsaw General Manager Paul Brown, to celebrate the successful partnership between Jigsaw and Warringah Council.
Jigsaw and Warringah Council have been working together for more than 12 months on a digitisation project the Council are undertaking, to convert historical property and DA files into digital format. The project has enabled Jigsaw to employ 7 people with disability in open employment, paying award wages, and has given many more their first opportunity to undertake work experience.
At the event both Minister Ajaka and Mayor Regan commended the Jigsaw model, which gives local government bodies the opportunity to undertake cost-saving digitisation work, while also meeting their obligations under the Disability Inclusion Act. With employment of people with disability high on the government’s agenda, the Jigsaw model was celebrated for its innovate approach to the issue, for paying award wages and for not relying in any way on government funding.
